COMMUNITY QUILTING INVITATION
Belle Grove Memorial Quilt Project
The first Quilt Honoring the 270 individuals enslaved at Belle Grove from the 1780s to the 1860s was completed and mounted on its frame last November. That important milestone would not have been possible without this community.
Community members stitched the name and birthdate of each person onto fabric blocks. Textile artist Carole Gary Staples of Ohio arranged these blocks into family trees, framed by vibrant African batik fabrics. Local quilt expert Pam Pampe prepared the quilts for hand quilting, and together with her husband, Bob Pampe, constructed the frames on which they will be mounted.
Now, work has begun on the second memorial quilt, and all of you are warmly invited to take part. Our goal is to complete the hand quilting by mid-March so that both quilts can be prepared for installation at Belle <a href="http://Grove.
