Celebrate National Trails Day with FREE outdoor fun for all ages!
Plant a tree, learn about birdwatching, join a yoga session, and explore hands-on nature activities along the Trails. Visit a volunteer fair – part of Trails Day – featuring more than a dozen local non-profits sharing ways to get involved. Kids can test their skills on a bike obstacle course, and everyone is encouraged to bike to the event – BikeWalk Winchester will provide free Bike Valet service.
Grab a treat from the Apple House Fork’d food truck, with apple cider donuts, BBQ, and more available for purchase.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Yoga at the Stone Circle led by Jackie Dawson
9:30 a.m. session for ages 18+ (bring a mat)
10:30 a.m.: session geared towards families/kids (bring a mat)
Plant a Tree on the Trails
10–11 a.m.: Plant a tree in the park with MSV garden staff. Fun for families, this opportunity is being offered on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last (trees are being planted along the trails behind the galleries building)
Winchester Volunteer Fair
10 a.m.–noon: Visit with more than a dozen local non-profits to see what the service needs are in the Winchester community and find out ways to give back and get involved (organizations will be set up on the lawn in front of the galleries building)
THROUGHOUT THE MORNING 9 a.m.–noon:
Kid’s/Family activities on the trails (plant sunflower seeds, make bird feeders, scavenger hunt, origami)
Bike/Walk Winchester Bike Valet set up – bike to the museum and park your bike for free with the valet while you walk around the site
Frederick County Parks & Rec – outdoor activities and bicycle obstacle course in front of the main galleries building
Audubon Society information tent setup on the patio
Tree talks with Arborist Jay Banks on the patio
Picnic blankets set up in front of the museum on the lawn – enjoy outdoor lunch with your family and friends
Blue Ridge Bicycles mobile bike shop – come have your bike serviced by a professional from Blue Ridge Bicycles

FREE! Walk the Trails with a Bird Expert
10 a.m.–noon: Join life-long birding enthusiast and naturalist Scott Kenney from the Northern Shenandoah Valley Audubon Society for walk through the Trails to see the many different types of birds that live and travel throughout the MSV. Learn about the birds that live in our community and what we can do to help them thrive. Kids will learn a “superpower” to attract birds and how to use it responsibly. The walk will end at the Silo where families are invited to make bird feeders. Walks will take place every 30 minutes from 10 a.m.–noon; registration is required.
Trails Day activities are free to all. Admission fees apply to tour the galleries building & the gardens (admission is free for ages 12 & under).
