On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Shenandoah University’s McCormick Civil War Institute will host its spring conference –“Quenching the… Embers”: Victory, Defeat, and Challenges After Appomattox.
The conference, which will take place on Shenandoah University’s campus, will feature presentations by nationally recognized historians Jeffrey Boutwell (independent scholar), Caroline Janney (University of Virginia), Jonathan Noyalas (Shenandoah University), and Jonathan White (Christopher Newport University). The $30 registration fee covers all presentations, lunch, and refreshments.
